I Suck.

And let’s be honest, so does my blog.

I go 100 mph every day and by the time I get home I have so many thoughts to share but I just sit and stare and stare and then I get distracted by something shiny.

And then I make a lemon drop.

I am kind of in… burn out mode. Too many irons in the fire, and not enough fire to back it up. I’ve been in this mode for a long time and The Husband sat me down a few nights ago and gave me a little pep talk (read: lecture) about realizing that I can’t do all things and be all things. (He’s such a buzz killer)

And as much as it kills me to say this - he is right. Internet, don’t tell him I said that.

But I do need some time off to sit back and be a little less crazy. And fortunately I have an amazing staff who is willing to do whatever they can to make it happen. Their willingness is incredibly sweet, although I am no fool to know it is less about them being nice, and more about wanting rid of me for a while.

And I cannot blame them.

So I am taking a few weeks off from it all - from The Restaurant, The Tricking, and The Blog. The first 2 will be managed wonderfully in my absence, but the third - this blog - needs my time to sit, get some help with making her pretty again, and getting things back on track.

Thank you to my long time readers for being so loyal and for the wonderful e-mails. I do read them, I just don’t always have the time to reply to them. For those who left long ago - who can blame them. This place has become a broken down trailer, and it is time to fix that.

So on June 1st I will be back, refreshed, and hopefully all pretty and shiny. But in the mean time I will be posting links to food blogs I find along the way and have fallen in love with. I sit and look at all the shiny pictures and pretty colors and sigh with complete admiration and envy.

I want to be pretty and shiny when I grow up, too.

So I am on a break, but I will be back. Thank you for your patience.

And to the lady who sent me Vodka - you rock.

But, but, if you get all pretty and shiny you won’t be like me anymore - weird, warped, and totally out there in left field somewhere.

I love your blog, no matter how it comes … when it’s served up, it’s great.

I’m trying to R&R from some obligations for a few weeks myself which isn’t working too well because I am trying to do all the things I left undone elsewhere which isn’t the point. I know. Maybe I should try a lemon drop.

Enjoy, relax, remember how to do a little bit of nothing and not feel guilty.

Relax…take deep breaths, and some Lemon Drops. We’ll miss you. You don’t suck; you just acknowledged that you can’t do everything all the time. We’re all prepared to wait patiently for your return, relaxed and refreshed.

  18. Jen Says:

Your dedicated readers will be here. We read for content, not for looks, so don’t stress about layouts, colors, etc. You are hilarious and always bring a smile to my face - so I check out your blog every single day. I’m facing big time burnout as well so I know exactly how you feel. Is it bad that I sometimes wish for a really big earthquake so everything just stops for awhile?

  19. Mary Says:

Enjoy your time off….I’ll definitely be waiting for your return.

  20. Melissa Says:

And I’ll be waiting….is it June 1 yet? No? How bout now?

Ok, I’ve penciled it in on my calendar -FW, June 1st.

Because if I actually wrote “Food Whore” on my work calendar I’d start making myself just a little TOO interesting to my colleagues…

  23. Dr Alice Says:

Get some rest, we’ll be here when you get back. It sounds like The Husband is a good guy and I’m glad you are doing this.

  24. Lindie Says:

I read your blog for your humor and for a bird’s eye view of catering. I have a few friends and relatives that do that. You have a nice fun and restful time and come back rejuvenated!

Have a wonderful break! I understand about wanting to look new and alluring,,,,I get that it is more about how you feel about it and less what we think about it. No problem, take your time.

I will be here when you get back.

Read you for years but rarely comment …

You don’t suck. I think all bloggers go through this. It makes me happy that I’m not a popular one; I feel bad for those who have SO MANY readers who depend on their content. They can’t slow down or take a break. And that’s sad to me; this should be fun!

Have a few lemon drops. We’ll see you when you get back!

  29. scj Says:

Have a good break! You certainly deserve it… I’ll check back with you in a month or so! I hope you have good stories from your vacation! Thanks for writing it, I just started a job catering, partially b/c of your stories.

  30. Tram Says:

I wish you a great relaxation. You definitely deserve it :) Looking forwards to reading new fun stories when u come back :)

  31. Christine VB Says:

Yay you! Take the time, breathe a bit and when you’re back, well, we’ll be here to listen to your ramblins’. Going through the same thing myself right now — what is it about food that sucks you down and spits you out?? Regardless, YOU, nail it all so well on the blog that I can’t wait for your return.

  32. Valerie Says:

    Enjoy your break.

    Darling Whore -
I just finished an invoice (kinda overdue) and sent it out and did the bank deposit, worked on some menu items and put away some things used on at a trick on Saturday night. I took a look at the calendar for some of my volunteer work to make sure it didn’t interfere with a trick meeting on Thursday and when I saw what May actually looked like, I thought, no wonder I’m tired. I hear ya babe. Take it easy and come back when you’re ready.
